Canadian children's toy supplies limited use of six new chemicals

The Canadian government announced that it would restrict the use of six kinds of phthalates to make children's products from June 10th. Violators could face a fine of 5 million Canadian dollars (about 5 million U.S. dollars).

Phthalates are plasticizers used in the processing of plastic products. They are often used in baby pacifiers, teethers and other children's toys and child care products. Health Minister Leona Aglukak of Canada said that phthalates do not directly affect health, but if children suck or chew plastic products containing these substances, they may cause health problems to children. Long-term effects. Research shows that even low-dose phthalates may affect children's development and behavior.

The new regulation also limits the content of six chemicals in soft vinyl plastics: DEHP, DBP and BBP3 must not exceed 0.1% in all toys and childcare articles; it may be placed in children under 4 years of age. In the mouth of toys and supplies, while limiting the use of DINP, DIDP and DNOP, the content must not exceed 0.1%.

Both the United States and the European Union have imposed similar strict restrictions.
