The total order value of Japanese machine tool tools totaled 98.06 billion yen in August, down 6.1% from July, and it was down for two consecutive months since July. And this figure is 8.4% lower than last August, which is the 13th consecutive year of year-on-year decline. The total order volume fell below 100 billion yen for the first time in four months. Domestic orders in Japan totaled 43.12 billion yen in August, down 16.1% from July, the first time since June. It was down 9.7% from August last year and is the seventh consecutive year-on-year decline since this year.
In major industry sectors, industrial machinery orders fell 13.9% in August, auto manufacturing orders fell 26.3%, orders for electronics and precision machinery fell 15.1%, and orders for aviation, shipbuilding and transportation equipment increased 85.2%.
Japan’s foreign trade orders totaled 54.94 billion yen, up 3.5% from July, the first time since June. Compared with the same period of last year, it decreased by 7.4%; it was the 15th consecutive month of decline.
In terms of the order area, Asian orders increased by 11.7% compared with July, with orders totaling 23.58 billion yen; a decrease of 11.0% compared with the same period last year. European orders fell 15.4% from July, with orders totaling 12.2 billion yen; a 8.1% drop from the same period last year.
