Japanese researchers develop new technologies for isolating DNA

Researchers at Nagoya University in Japan have announced that they have developed new technologies that can separate DNA in just a few seconds, making it possible to analyze DNA information at ultra-high speeds, and it is expected to achieve real-time genetic testing.

DNA is a substance that carries life information. It exists in the form of a double helix chain in a cell. Separating and analyzing it is a very tedious and time-consuming task.

Separating DNA requires different materials depending on the length of the DNA strand, which makes the existing DNA separation and resolution techniques take up to tens of hours.

Rapid separation of DNA allows for ultra-high-speed genetic testing, and information from genetic testing will play an important role in disease diagnosis and prevention.

The new technology developed by the researchers is called “Nano Christmas Tree” – a large amount of tin oxide nanomaterials are laid out like branches on a special glass plate 2 cm long, 1 cm wide and 1 mm thick. When the collected blood sample flows on the glass plate, the gap of the nano-material "twig" will capture DNA strands of different lengths, and different DNAs can be separated in a few seconds.
