The roughage refers to the feed in which the natural moisture content in the feed is less than 60%, the crude fiber content in the dry matter is not less than 18%, and is fed in the form of air-dried matter. Green fodder, silage, hay, crop straw, and vinasse are all roughage. The nutritional value of this type of feed is low, the digestible energy content generally does not exceed 10.5MJ/kg DM, and the organic matter digestibility is not higher than 65%.
In general, the roughage is poorly palatable, it is difficult to digest, and there are very few nutrients that can be absorbed and utilized. However, roughage also has some advantages that other feeds do not have: wide sources, many types, large yields and low prices. It is also because of the use of roughage in the breeding process, but before feeding, we have to do some simple processing of the roughage.
First, the
Spread the wheat straw on the threshing field, 30~40 cm thick, and then lay 30~40 cm fresh green alfalfa on the upper side, and cover the same thickness of wheat straw on the alfalfa, then crush it with stone. After the squeezing outflow sap of the alfalfa is absorbed by the wheat straw, the palatability and nutritional value of the wheat straw can be improved.
Second, cooking
Cooking can improve the palatability of straw and soften cellulose. Often used to feed breeding pigs, fattening cattle and low-yielding dairy cows. Mix the chopped straw with the carrots, put them into the iron pot (the lower layer of the snorkel, the hole on the trachea), cover the sack, steam it from the trachea for 20~30 seconds, and take it out after 5~6 hours. Feed the cows.
